SuperSport United‘s Siphesihle Ndlovu won the Young Player of the Season award at Maritzburg United. Who are his picks for this season?
NDLOVU PICKS SUPERSPORT UNITED YOUNGSTER AS FIRST CHOICE
After playing 22 games in United’s central midfield this season, Ndlovu has been noticing a few emerging youngsters, especially his SuperSport teammate Shandre Campbell. According to the 27-year-old star from Pietermaritzburg, Campbell, aged 18, is a leading contender, alongside Orlando Pirates‘ Relebohile Mofokeng (19) and Devin Titus (23) of Stellenbosch FC.
“Yes, I won the [Young Players of the Season] award when I was at Maritzburg United,” Ndlovu told FARPost.
“I think this season there have been some youngsters that have impressed so much. An obvious one is Shandre Campbell in my team [SuperSport]. I believe he has done very well this season, and he’s gaining some experience game-by-game.
“Also, there is [Relebohile] Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates and [Devin] Titus of Stellenbosch FC. For me, those are the top three [youngsters] that have done well for their clubs this season. They deserve to win the award,” the SuperSport number six concluded.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch’ Titus has continued to open the gap on Pirates’ Mofokeng and SuperSport’s Campbell with goal contributions. The Bishop Lavis-born winger scored on Wednesday at Stellies beat Golden Arrows 3-0 at the Danie Craven Stadium. Titus has now marked 12 goals and three assists in 34 games.
Pirates’ Mofokeng is on four goals and six assists in 32 games, while SuperSport’s Campbell has delivered five goals and five assists in 27 games.
“The less said the better, in my opinion we do our business the way we do our business. Sometimes being under the radar is not a bad thing,” Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker said via iDiskiTimes.
“I just look at a player like Devin Titus, for example, I again have fear that if you look at goal contributions, assists, and goals scored he should win Young Player of the Season, if it was tomorrow by a country mile.
“Whether that happens I don’t know but I do feel it’s those types of instances where maybe not enough has been said about some of the achievements of what individual players are doing and what we’re doing as a team but we are not out there to let people see what we’re doing by telling them, we just go by our business the way we do.
“I do believe we will get the credit and reward that we deserve,” the Stellies mentor concluded.
Meanwhile, Titus and Mofokeng will meet when SuperSport visit Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on 25 May.
