Supercars ace Waters set for NASCAR Truck Series debut

supercars ace waters set for nascar truck series debut

Supercars ace Cam Waters will make his NASCAR debut in the Truck Series in Virginia.

Tickford Racing star driver Cam Waters is all set to make his NASCAR debut in Virginia next weekend.

Waters will team up with the NASCAR Truck Series’ longest-tenured team – ThorSport Racing – for a guest drive in the Long John Silver’s 200.

The Mildura product is the latest Supercars-based driver to head to the renowned American series, with Shane van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki each getting guest stints last year.

Van Gisbergen parlayed a debut NASCAR Cup Series win in Chicago into a full-time deal in America for this season.

Two-time Supercars championship runner-up Waters thanked his team Tickford Racing for supporting him and taking a chance in a different series.

“We’ve been working away at making this happen for some time and to finally be given the chance to race, and with a top operation, is great,” he said.

“I’m not putting too much pressure on myself knowing I will be getting thrown into the deep end without any testing, but hopefully I can adapt reasonably quickly and be competitive.

“It’s a short oval so I’m sure it will be pretty wild out there.”

Waters will borrow the No.66 Ford that has been driven by Conner Jones so far this Truck Series season, with his best finish a 14th-placing in Las Vegas earlier this month.

The 29-year-old found a fifth and two sevenths among the four Supercars races at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix last weekend.
