Stuart Bingham v Jak Jones LIVE: World Snooker Championship score and latest updates today

LIVE – Updated at 18:56

This evening’s World Snooker Championship action is an intriguing match-up between former world champion Stuart Bingham and qualifer Jak Jones.

The pre-tournament favourite and world No 1 Ronnie O’Sullivan crashed out at the quarter-final stage as Bingham progressed to the semi-finals following a thrilling and stylishly competent contest at the Crucible. Bingham now returns to action during Thursday’s evening session where he will face Jones who provided another major upset by defeating Judd Trump.

Elsewhere Kyren Wilson, who has perhaps been playing the most consistently great snooker of the tournament, notched up a series of high breaks on his way to a 13-8 quarter-final victory over John Higgins while David Gilbert reached the the final four in the World Championship for the first time in five years also with a 13-8 win over Stephen Maguire.

There was nothing to separate the two over the afternoon session with the lead switching hands throughout only for the duo to remain level at 4-4 heading into tomorrow’s play. Gilbert scored the higher of the two including a century break of 105 in the fourth frame.

Kyren Wilson fights back against David Gilbert to leave semi-final evenly poised

16:23 , Mike Jones

Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert could not be separated by the end of the first session of their World Snooker Championship semi-final at the Crucible.

They finished all-square at 4-4 with Wilson, the only seed left in the tournament, having to fight back after trailing 3-2 and then 4-3 in a finely-balanced all-English clash.

Nerves clearly affected both players in an edgy start but Wilson took the opening frame with a break of 73 sweeping him clear.

Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert will be back in action tomorrow but the snooker coverage doesn’t stop as the second semi-final gets underway tonight.

Stuart Bingham, the 2015 champion, faces fellow qualifier Jak Jones with that match getting underway around 7pm.

During his 147 attempt, Wilson potted 11 reds and 11 blacks but it wasn’t to be for him. Maybe when he’s back out there tomorrow he’ll get another shot at one.

What is the one table set up like here at the World Championship?

“It’s amazing. It’s so fun to be a part of, all eyes are on you – when there’s two tables there’s lots of movement from the other side – lots of noise and you know all the tension is on you.

“I love being a part of it.”

Does Wilson feel the expectation of being the only seeded player left in the tournament?

“No, not at all,” he replied when asked the question, “I think it’s fascinating and an amazing line-up (for the semi-finals). It’s so unique and something we’ve never seen before.

“I always have belief in my own game that I can do it (win the tournament) but probably all four players that are in the semi-final a lot of people wouldn’t have imagined being at this stage.

“It’s not necessarily who’s left in, I think it’s the person I beat in the last round. That was a such a massive hurdle for me, beating someone like John Higgins, it takes blood, sweat and tears to beat him over three sessions. That’s what’s given me confidence.

“You could have left Ronnie (O’Sullivan) in there and I’d still fancy doing the job as there’s no point ducking these top players. Stuart’s (Bingham) been there and won it, Jak Jones took out Judd Trump and Dave (Gilbert’s) beat the former world champion so every player left in has a right to go on and win this title.”

“I thought it was a good session, very open, very attacking, lots of big breaks. At the end of the day people pay good money to come an watch us play snooker so you want to perform. That’s probably why I tried a cheeky maximum there.

“It would have been so special, it’s been well documented that my kids were in school when I made my first one (maximum break of 147) and it would have been great because they were here.

“I was trying to have a bit of fun with the crowd at the same time and probably lost a bit of concentration.”

Kyren Wilson 4-4 David Gilbert

15:55 , Mike Jones

Wilson stopped by the BBC studio after the session and gave his thoughts on the match so far saying: “It was a good session, very open and attacking. There were lots of good breaks.

“You want to perform for the crowd and that’s why I tried for a cheeky 147. It would have been so special to make it in front of my boys.

“My brother [Taylor] told me off (for not concentrating on winning the frame).”

2005 world champion Shaun Murphy speaking on BBC Two:

15:49 , Mike Jones

“I’d say 4-4 is the fair result after the first session. Dave had the slight advantage but Kyren has a really solid technique and kept going.

“Kyren is one of the best in the world. His track record proves that.”

Kyren Wilson 4-4 David Gilbert

15:42 , Mike Jones

Kyren Wilson overcuts a red to the middle left pocket after a break of 88. Gilbert stands up and shakes Wilson’s hands. The 147 slips away but Wilson does what he needed to do.

He draws level in the match and a brilliantly tight session comes to a close with nothing to separate the players.

Kyren Wilson 3-4 David Gilbert

15:40 , Mike Jones

When the break reaches 73, Wilson is warmly applauded as the frame should be his. Now the focus is on the possible maximum. Can he pull it off?

When the next one drops there’s only four reds to go…

Kyren Wilson 3-4 David Gilbert

15:39 , Mike Jones

Good shot! Wilson has to cut the black thinly into the bottom left pocket and manages it. He’s up to 64 and has so far potted red-black combos through this break.

There’s a possible 147 on the cards for him but the reds aren’t in the best of positions. His focus will be to just win the frame.

Kyren Wilson 3-4 David Gilbert

15:37 , Mike Jones

Ah! Wilson screws back after potting a red and splits the rest of them brilliantly. The cueball finishes up on the edge of the cushion but confidently smokes home the black and sets up to continue his break.

That was a shot that could potentially tripped him up but he looks in great form now.

Kyren Wilson 3-4 David Gilbert

15:35 , Mike Jones

This frame could be a fascinating one. an error from Gilbert means the first opportunity comes to Wilson who uses the rest to roll in a red to the bottom right.

The black quickly follows and there are five or six possible reds for him to notch up before he needs to think about spreading the pack.

Kyren Wilson 3-4 David Gilbert

15:30 , Mike Jones

Kyren Wilson has been outplayed in this session but he’s only one frame behind. He’ll be pleased with that despite not playing very well.

If he can take the final frame of the afternoon too then he’ll be over the moon with the result.

Kyren Wilson 3-4 David Gilbert

15:29 , Mike Jones

Gilbert moves 56 ahead with a possible 67 left on the table. He picks off the reds in the centre of the middle using the aid of the blue and the pink.

There are two awkward ones on each side cushion but Gilbert has a big enough lead not to worry about them. He rolls one in and is perfectly set up for the black.

When that drops he has to come down the left cushion for the other red which goes in as well. Gilbert can tidy up now and the frame is his.

The break finishes at 80 and Gilber moves back into the lead.

Kyren Wilson 3-3 David Gilbert

15:24 , Mike Jones

Gilbert’s lead is 37 but luckily for him there’s nothing left on for Wilson. He tries to play safe and brings the cueball up to the baulk cushion.

There’s a possible angle for a red to the bottom left but it’s another thinker for Gilbert. He takes it on and nails the shot, spinning the white ball back into the middle of the table.

Kyren Wilson 3-3 David Gilbert

15:21 , Mike Jones

There’s a pack of seven reds around the pink which Gilbert well need to split up in order to win this frame. He for his content to take on the loose balls.

A screw off the black knocks away some of the bunched reds but the next shot is going to be a tricky one. There’s not an easy pot available and Gilbert is thinking hard about the next play.

He goes for a long pot to the top right but the ball wobbles out of the pocket!

Kyren Wilson 3-3 David Gilbert

15:16 , Mike Jones

More great stuff from Wilson. After Gilbert’s break he nestle a long pot into the bottom right and fizzes around the table to set up a shot on the green.

Positioned on a straight forward pot to the bottom left, Wilson then misses! That’s going to annoy him massively and the cueball is well placed for Gilbert.

Kyren Wilson 3-3 David Gilbert

15:14 , Mike Jones

This is tidy and full for skill from Kyren Wilson. He manoeuvres his way around the table and notches up a break of 67 before missing a long pot on the final red.

Gilbert remains in his seat and Wilson levels the match once again. Two frames to go in this session.

Kyren Wilson 2-3 David Gilbert

15:07 , Mike Jones

Oh that could be costly.

Gilbert takes on a half-chance to bottom right and misses leaving the reds open for Wilson. He’s been off the table for a while so a strong showing now would bring him some confidence.

Can he take it?

Kyren Wilson 2-3 David Gilbert

15:06 , Mike Jones

Wilson then takes up a long pot but wobbles it in the jaws of the top right pocket. Gilbert’s error doesn’t cost him and he’s back at the table in no time to continue to build his lead.

Kyren Wilson 2-3 David Gilbert

15:04 , Mike Jones

Gilbert nestles a long red into the bottom right pocket and comes round the table to slot in the brown and leave the cueball in a more favourable position to attack the rest of the reds.

A red-black combo puts him among them but leaves him with an awkward angling shot. He cannons the cueball into the black and cuts in his intended red but clips one of the others with his cue for a foul.

Kyren Wilson 2-3 David Gilbert

14:59 , Mike Jones

Wilson breaks off for the sixth frame and leaves a pot on for Gilbert. He decides not to take it on as there wouldn’t be a favourable colour to follow up with.

Instead he plays a corker of a safety shot, curving the cueball around the blue, clipping a red and leaving the white back up by the top cushion.

Kyren Wilson 2-3 David Gilbert

14:55 , Mike Jones

On the colours the green means the Gilbert takes the frame but he secures it fully by tidying up the rest of them. A break of 91 means that’s two frames in a row for Gilbert and he moves ahead for the first time in the match.

Kyren Wilson 2-2 David Gilbert

14:54 , Mike Jones

This is good snooker. Any kind of mistake in this match has been punished by the opposing player. Wilson missed a shot to the middle and Gilbert hasn’t given him a sniff to get back to the table.

There’s a nervous moment as a softly hit pink only just trickles into pocket but it takes Gilbert ahead in the frame. The final red is awkward but it safely lands in the middle right hole and from here Gilbert is in full control.

Kyren Wilson 2-2 David Gilbert

14:46 , Mike Jones

The blacks follows after that great plant and Wilson screws into the pack of reds. As they split there’s really only one available for him, a slice to the middle right.

He hits it with a good pace but the ball bounces off the cushion and the break ends at 41. Chance for Gilbert.

Kyren Wilson 2-2 David Gilbert

14:45 , Mike Jones

Kyren Wilson wastes no time at all taking control of this fifth frame. He gets in straight away and has a few reds close to the black to for.

He rolls one into the bottom left pocket and comes up to play off the blue before spinning into position for the next loose red. That’s a good shot.

His break gets up to 32 and he looks to be lining up for a long, long plant. This one is sent to the top right pocket and drops safely!

Who is David Gilbert? The ‘Angry Farmer’ aiming to fulfil huge snooker talent

14:35 , Mike Jones

If David Gilbert continues his remarkable run at the 2024 World Snooker Championship all the way to the title, not only would he go down as one of the most surprising winners in the tournament’s history but there would be few more popular champions.

The man hilariously nicknamed ‘The Angry Farmer’ due to regularly working on his family’s farm in Staffordshire and having a reputation for on-table petulance earlier during his career, is well-liked by almost all of his fellow professionals and the media who cover the sport.

“I really hope so,” said reigning world champion Luca Brecel when asked if Gilbert could go on to win the world title this year after stunningly being beaten by him in round one. “I just like Dave, he’s a bit like me, he’s very down to earth, says it how it is and doesn’t take himself too seriously which is fantastic. I really love him, he’s a good guy.”

Who is Kyren Wilson? The snooker star edging closer to ending major title drought

14:25 , Mike Jones

For Kyren Wilson, another deep run at the World Championship could finally allow a man long tipped for a major title to fulfil the potential he has shown throughout his career.

Born in Kettering, the 32-year-old first turned professional in 2010 and soon established himself as one of snooker’s brightest young stars, recovering from a loss of form and regaining his World Tour card to return to the top tier of the sport in 2013.

Wilson immediately made an impact, forging a reputation as a player who could beat anyone on his day as he built the consistency required to challenge at the highest level. By 2015, it had arrived — at the Shanghai Masters, Wilson came all the way through qualifying to stun Judd Trump in the final and secure his first ranking title.

Who is Kyren Wilson? The snooker star edging closer to ending major title drought

Kyren Wilson 2-2 David Gilbert

14:21 , Mike Jones

Century! That’s class from David Gilbert. He finishes this first mini session with a brilliant century including a wonderful pot of the final red that elicited a cry of ‘shot!’ from a member of the crowd.

Gilbert finishes with a break of 105, the first three figure score of this semi-final.

It’s all square with nothing to separate the two players.

Kyren Wilson 2-1 David Gilbert

14:17 , Mike Jones

Wilson’s break goes above 50 with seven reds left on the table. None of which are particularly easy with one separated and the rest bunched together.

He slides the loose one into the middle right pocket and has to play off the brown to get back down the table. He hits his shot quite hard and expertly splits the pack.

Wonderful shot! This frame is his to lose now.

Kyren Wilson 2-1 David Gilbert

14:12 , Mike Jones

This will be the final frame before the mid session interval and Gilbert manages to get back in with a stylish pot to the middle left.

Coming off the blue he screws the cueball down the table and pots a red to the bottom left leaving himself perfectly set up for the black.

Big chance for him now.

Kyren Wilson 2-1 David Gilbert

14:08 , Mike Jones

That’s a great shot from David Gilbert! With the cueball hugging the top cushion he plays a long shot down the red, clips the red he’s aiming for and rolls it into the bottom right pocket.

There’s nothing else on for him so his break ends at just one but it’s a sign of his confidence.

Kyren Wilson 2-1 David Gilbert

14:03 , Mike Jones

Wilson takes the frame!

It’s regulation potting for the baulk colours, blue and pink with a slightly awkward shot for the black. Never the less they all go in and Wilson takes full advantage of Gilbert’s mistake to clean up the table and move back ahead.

Kyren Wilson 1-1 David Gilbert

14:01 , Mike Jones

Wilson just needs to keep his head here. He’s made a few mistakes already in this match but the reds are almost perfectly set up for him to play off the black and cut the deficit.

It doesn’t take long either.

Some delicate and dainty play from Wilson sees him mop up all but one of the remaining reds with a lead of just 13. He’s left with a very thin cut to pot the last red into the middle right but Wilson pings it straight in the middle of the pocket.

He’s back on track with that pot and has just the colours to go.

Kyren Wilson 1-1 David Gilbert

13:56 , Mike Jones

Oh! The crowd didn’t see this coming. Gilbert scutters the black over the bottom left pocket after a comfortable break of 40. If that dropped then he would have been quids in to take the frame.

Now, Wilson has a chance to respond.

Kyren Wilson 1-1 David Gilbert

13:53 , Mike Jones

Wilson takes on a long pot to the bottom right after Gilbert breaks off but again his way off line coming down the table and leaves his opponent with the opportunity to score first.

Gilbert absolutely takes advantage, tidying up the loose reds near the middle of the table with the help of both the blue and the yellow.

Kyren Wilson 1-1 David Gilbert

13:49 , Mike Jones

The movement of the black and pink has caused an issue for both players in this frame but Gilbert has handled it better. A lovely long pot to sink the blue to the top pocket increases his lead but there are still and few problematic reds to deal with.

A break of 39 means Wilson needs snookers to take the frame back but he may not get the chance. Gilbert gets the pink to drop and bounces round to houses to get back onto one of the two remaining reds.

He doesn’t pot it along the bottom cushion but Wilson remains in his set. Gilbert draws back level.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 David Gilbert

13:42 , Mike Jones

Or not. A positional error from Gilbert means he doesn’t leave a red on for himself towards the bottom end of the table and he’s forced to knock the cueball safe with just a nine point lead.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 David Gilbert

13:40 , Mike Jones

Another miss from Wilson. He needs to use the rest to slip a red into the bottom left pocket but doesn’t quite get the angle right and the opportunity to get further ahead goes begging.

David Gilbert has the chance to win the frame from here with the remaining reds all fairly accessible. In no time he’s overturned Wilson’s lead and moved ahead in the frame.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 David Gilbert

13:35 , Mike Jones

Wilson manages to score first in this frame but a simple error sees a red lip out of the bottom left pocket. Gilbert knocks it in in response but hasn’t got a shot on either the pink or black as both have been dislodged from their spots.

There’ll be a bit of tactical play now, Wilson leads 7-1 in the second frame.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 David Gilbert

13:31 , Mike Jones

Wilson breaks off for frame number two with a bit of confidence after getting on the board early. He’ll be hoping to end to that tally as soon as possible and put his stamp on this semi-final as quickly as he can – just as he did against John Higgins.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 David Gilbert

13:29 , Mike Jones

Wilson has another potential trip up with a long pot to the top right but he rolls it into the middle of the pocket with seeming ease. His positional play off the black that follows is terrific and he nestles in the next red to middle left.

When the final red goes in too Wilson looks to have locked up this frame. Just the colours to go for a potential century break…

… nope. The break ends at 73 but that’s enough to give the opening frame to him. He takes it 81-23.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:26 , Mike Jones

Wilson goes about tidying up some of the available reds with half a mind on who to open up some of the three that are by the left hand cushion.

A cannon moves one of them into the middle of the table and he can play off the pink to keep the break going. A break of 46 gives him a lead of 31 and now he has to decide how the tackle the difficult remaining reds.

The first one is blitz into the top right pocket from the middle of the table which earns him a round of applause, rightly so. Great shot.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:22 , Mike Jones

It’s a slow and steady build from Gilbert who switches around off both the pink and black as he notches up a score of 23. A thin cut on a red close to the bottom cushion doesn’t drop and the advantage swings back to Wilson.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:18 , Mike Jones

When he comes back to the table, Wilson takes on a long pot and misses it by quite a margin. He gets lucky as the cueball finishes behind the green cutting off a shot on the loose red he just hit widely out of position.

Gilbert goes safe and Wilson spies a chance to increase his lead. He attempts to knock a red into the middle left pocket by hitting it in off the yellow.

It doesn’t work and Gilbert has the chance to build a big score now.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:15 , Mike Jones

Wilson gets on the board first! He takes advantage of that miss from Gilbert and slots a red into the same pocket before following up with the pink.

The table isn’t hugely helpful and Wilson needs to slice a fairly straight shot into the bottom right to keep the break going.

He dislodges the black as well in the hopes of setting it up for follow up but the ball rolls too far and Wilson has to play sage after a break of eight.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:13 , Mike Jones

Gilbert breaks off for the first frame and leaves nothing on for Wilson to have a go at. His opponent plays safe, bouncing off the back and right hand cushions to leave the cuevall up behind the green.

There’s a line available for a long pot to the bottom left pocket. Gilbert takes it on but kisses the pocket lip and the red doesn’t drop.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:10 , Mike Jones

Six weeks ago David Gilbert didn’t even know if he’d be playing in the World Championship this year. Now he’s in the semi-final and steps into the arena to an upbeat and energetic round of applause.

Kyren Wilson has his two sons watching this afternoon. He’s welcomed to the table positively as well. This should be a cracking match.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:08 , Mike Jones

David Gilbert is waiting just outside the main room and looks fairly relaxed after his decent performances so far. Kyren Wilson meanwhile is waiting in the tournament office.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 David Gilbert

13:01 , Mike Jones

Okay then. Coverage is just starting on BBC Two for this afternoon session. The players will be heading out shortly for the opening of four possible sessions in this semi-final.

It is a best of 33 match meaning to get through to the final David Gilbert or Kyren Wilson need to win 17 frames.

David Gilbert on World Championship resurgence

12:55 , Mike Jones

David Gilbert has dropped outside the top 30 ranked snooker players in recent times but he credits a new fitness programme for his resurgence that has seen him defeat defending champion Luca Brecel, Rob Milkins and Stephen Maguire en route to the semi-finals.

“It was an impossible thought not too long ago but I’m in the semis and feeling great,” Gilbert said.

“It is a massive achievement. Only five weeks or so I couldn’t be bothered to play in the qualifiers – I thought ‘just turn up [and] take the £10,000 and that’ll be that’.

“I have a lot of confidence in myself and am motivated to prove to myself that I can go out and play.”

Kyren Wilson on defeating John Higgins

12:50 , Mike Jones

“I have had a good few hidings off John especially at the Crucible so to bounce back I am really proud of myself,” Wilson said after his 13-8 victory yesterday.

“I have gone away worked at my game and realised what I was doing wrong and sometimes it takes a while to rebuild. That is up there as one of my best wins of my career to beat an all-time great like John.”

Referee dispute and ‘doorgate’: How Ronnie O’Sullivan’s chaotic World Snooker Championship unravelled

12:45 , Mike Jones

Ronnie O’Sullivan’s chase for a record eighth World Championship is over after defeat to Stuart Bingham on a day of drama at the Crucible.

O’Sullivan had hoped to move clear of Stephen Hendry as the most successful player at the event in the modern era, but exited at the quarter-final stage after a chaotic encounter that ended 13-10 in Bingham’s favour.

Last the tournament winner in 2022, O’Sullivan had arrived in Sheffield seeking to become only the fourth man to sweep the Triple Crown events in a single season having won The Masters and UK Championship earlier in the campaign.

Kyren Wilson focused on World Championship amid talk of possible rival tour

12:40 , Mike Jones

Kyren Wilson believes these are “exciting times” for snooker after being contacted about joining a possible rival tour but said he has not yet made a decision on his future.

Many leading players are understood to have been approached by Far East backers about the prospect of establishing a breakaway circuit from as early as next season.

Wilson confirmed after his second-round victory over Joe O’Connor at the Crucible that he has received a firm offer to go and play in certain tournaments but said his only focus is on the World Championship at this stage.

The financial rewards of a breakaway snooker tour appeal to Ronnie O’Sullivan

12:35 , Mike Jones

Ronnie O’Sullivan joked that he would “love to see” a LIV Golf-style breakaway in snooker if someone was willing to offer him hundreds of millions of pounds, but was not interested in contributing to the noise around what a possible rival could mean for the World Snooker Tour.

Leading players, including O’Sullivan, are understood to have been approached by Far East backers about the prospect of establishing a breakaway circuit from as early as next season.

O’Sullivan has already effectively ruled himself out of any parallel tour by signing a deal to play in WST events in Saudi Arabia for the next three years.

After slumping to defeat yesterday against Stuart Bingham, Ronnie O’Sullivan said: “It’s just the way it goes. I’m actually really happy, feel I’m actually getting through the ball which is more important for me at this stage.

“It’s not the win I’d have liked but that’s snooker, that’s the way it goes. Good luck to Stuart, he played a fantastic match and deserved his victory. I’m just pleased I competed – just a few errors here and there but on the whole not too bad.

“I was just coming here knowing it was going to be another difficult tournament, no one has any divine right to win any match. A lot can happen in the game of snooker and that’s just sport you know.”

Jak Jones on ‘taking advantage’ of underpar Judd Trump

12:25 , Mike Jones

Jak Jones, who had never previously reached a ranking semi-final, defended his pace of play and said he detected early in the quarter-final that Judd Trump, a clear favourite with five ranking titles to his name this season alone, was out of sorts.

“I thought Judd struggled quite a bit,” said Jones. “He started off with a century, just looking like typical Judd, but after I went in 3-1 at the interval I thought he was playing really slow.

“He wasn’t the fast-flowing aggressive player that he usually is. I noticed it from the beginning and it kind of surprised me, and I took advantage.”

Judd Trump’s hopes of landing a second World Snooker Championship title were shattered by qualifier Jak Jones in a major quarter-final upset at the Crucible.

Jones, the world number 44, capitalised on an error-strewn display by the 2019 champion to turn an 8-8 overnight tie into a 13-9 win and reach the last four for the first time.

Trump offered no excuses after being lured into a war of attrition by his opponent, who is ranked second slowest of those who booked a place in this year’s tournament proper.

Ronnie O’Sullivan was praised for his apparent sportsmanship during his quarter-final match with Stuart Bingham at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

The seven-time world champion opted to end his break by playing a safety shot, rather than attempt to pot a red, as he did not believe the black was sitting on its spot properly and appeared unwilling to gain an unfair advantage.

Ronnie O’Sullivan displayed “unbelievable” sportsmanship during an incident in his quarter-final loss against Stuart Bingham at the World Snooker Championship.

O’Sullivan was leading 6-5 in the best-of-25 contest, and down 14 points in the 12th frame, when the bizarre moment occurred after he had potted the black.

World Snooker Championship

09:53 , Mike Jones

Good morning and welcome to The Independent’s coverage of the World Snooker Championship. We’re at the semi-final stage of the tournament with most of the bigger names having already been dumped out of the tournament.

Of the 16 seeded players only Kyren Wilson (12) has made it through to the final four. His ability to rack up big breaks and close out matches helped him to a 13-8 victory over John Higgins in the quarter-finals and he’ll be a tough opponent for 41-year-old David Gilbert.

Gilbert has had a exemplary run through the competition so far, beating 2023 world champion Luca Brecel in the opening round before sweeping aside Robert Milkins and Stephen Maguire. His form has improved throughout the tournament and has carried him to a first semi-final appearance at the Crucible in five years.

These two go head-to-head for the first semi-final session this afternoon before the other two semi-finalist, Stuart Bingham and Jak Jones, take to the table this evening.

Yesterday, Bingham played a terrific match of mental fortitude to hold off World No. 1 Ronnie O’Sullivan and three winning frames in a row took him into the semis while Jak Jones, a qualifier for the tournament, overcame an underpar Judd Trump to continue his fariytale run.

We’ll have coverage from both matches throughout the day so stick around for all the snooker goodness.
