charges hounding quiboloy saddens imee marcos: ‘he has been kind to us’

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos reminded his colleagues about giving due process and respecting one’s right against self-incrimination.

She expressed her sentiment as she also recognized the power of Congress to issue a subpoena.

At the regular Kapihan sa Senado on Thursday, Marcos was asked about the call of her brother, President  Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, for pastor Apollo Quiboloy to face the congressional probes.

“Alam naman natin na talagang kapangyarihan ng Kongreso at ng Senado na mag-issue ng subpoena at talagang fundamental power iyan,” the senator said.

(We are aware that it is indeed the power of the Congress and the Senate to issue subpoenas, and that is a fundamental power.)

“Pero alalahanin natin na kinakailangang bigyan ng substantive and procedural due process at saka iyong karapatan against self-incrimination,” she gave the caution.

(But let us remember that substantive and procedural due process must be given, along with the right against self-incrimination.)

“Ang ibig kong sabihin, lungkot na lungkot ako sa mga pangyayari tungkol sa SMNI (Sonshine Media Network International) at kay pastor Quiboloy,” the legislator lamented.

(What I mean is, I am deeply saddened by the events surrounding SMNI and Pastor Quiboloy.)

“Mabait siya sa atin at higit sa lahat talagang tumutulong sa napakarami,” she recalled.

(He has been kind to us and, above all, he has truly helped many people.)

“Kaya’t malungkot ako na nauwi sa ganito at sana naisaayos na lamang ito nang mas mapayapa at mas tahimik na pamamaraan,” she further said.

(So, it saddens me that it has come to this. I hope that this can be resolved in a peaceful and quiet manner.)

The self-proclaimed ‘Appointed Son of God’ is now the subject of separate  investigations by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In the Senate, Quiboloy is being  investigated
