Strong low pressure to usher in soaking rains on the Prairies
Another active system headed towards the Prairies is expecting to bring with it soaking rain across the region. Now this low pressure is particularly interesting because it is going to be quite strong for this time of year. For areas like Regina, falling down possibly to 982 millibars may make it the strongest low pressure system we’ve seen in this region ever. Now with this low pressure, what we will be expecting is going to be that rain heading towards the Sunday overnight into early Monday morning. That’s when we’ll see those initial bands of rain pushing into areas of Saskatchewan. Heavier rain to accompany the regions like the southern end of Alberta will be ushered in as we’re heading towards our Friday, Monday evening and into Tuesday morning. Gusty winds as this boundary starts to push on in will have gusts upwards of 50 kilometers an hour from northeast on Monday. And as we head towards Tuesday, the wrap around behind this low will usher more of that northeasterly wind. So definitely cooling the area down, but widespread gusts anywhere between 50 all the way up to 60 kilometers an hour expected. The heaviest rain will be down towards regions of the southern end of Alberta, but that rain will be trickling as well as falling into areas of Manitoba as well.
