Brentford have announced they have signed a replacement for Ivan Toney, who looks set to join Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United this summer.

Arsenal and Chelsea both tried to sign Toney in the January transfer window and despite being unable to strike a deal, the two sides are set to try again when the window reopens at the end of the season.

United are also keeping tabs on Toney and will rival the two London teams for the 27-year-old’s signature in the summer.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has already admitted that Toney will likely be sold at the end of the season – and his expected exit has now been all-but confirmed.

That’s because Brentford announced the signing of Igor Thiago from Club Brugge on Wednesday – with the Brazilian forward penning a five-year contract – and set to link up with his new teammates in west London in the summer.

Frank has described Thiago as a ‘key player for a key position’ in a hint that he will replace Toney for the 2024-25 campaign.

‘I’m very pleased that we have been proactive as a club,’ Frank told the Brentford website. ‘We are ahead of the curve.

‘We have signed a key player for a key position. Thiago is a very exciting striker who fits the role in our team.

‘He is hard working and a very good pressing player. He is also a physical presence, very good in the box and can link the play.

‘He’s progressing well in the Belgian league, so there is big potential and we are looking forward to seeing him in a red and white shirt.’
