New Delhi: Germany is one of the top four most popular travel destinations for Indian nationals heading to Europe. The country’s tourism industry is witnessing a notable growth in visitors with Indian tourists playing a key role in driving this development. With more Indian students heading to the country, it hopes to attract more families and tourists and urges Indians to stay longer. Indian students are now the largest international community on the German campuses with 42,578 students as of 2023.

In recent years, Germany has seen a significant increase in Indian tourists choosing the country as their most preferred travel destination.

Over 8 Lakh Overnight Stays From India in 2023

The country welcomed over eight lakh overnight stays from India in 2023, marking a large rise in German tourism compared to the previous years. This trend highlights Germany’s appeal as a sustainable and travel friendly destination offering diverse cultural experiences and hidden gems that captivate the hearts of travelers be it from India or any corner of the world.

Germany recorded 826703 overnight stays between January and December 2023. This is a nearly 32.6 per cent jump for previous year when 623363 overnight stays were recorded.

Direct flight connectivity to Munich and Frankfurt from key Indian cities of Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad is also boosting connectivity. As compared to rest of Europe where the average room rate is approximately 114 Euros, Germany lies on the affordable side with average room rates at 105 Euros. As of 2023, a traveller can expect to spend around 3000 Euros per trip to Germany.

‘Stay Longer’

At a press conference on Tuesday, April 30, Romit Theophilus, Director of Marketing & Sales Office India at the German National Tourist Office (GNTO), said that the rising interest among Indian travelers in exploring Germany’s rich culture, scenic landscapes, historic landmarks, and renowned culinary experiences. He added that as per trends, most Indians visit Germany on business trips however, this picture is now changing. In FY 2022-2023, 53 per cent of all trips to Germany were holiday trips, 39 per cent were business tripa and 9 per cent were VFR-/other trips.

He further urged Indians to stay for a longer duration when visiting Germany and explore the city and all it has to offer.

The Euro Cup 2024, booming biking and hiking culture, UNESCO World Heritage sites along with the rich culture of the country which will also be celebrating 35 years of the fall of Berlin Wall this year, are some of the reasons that will make your travel to Germany in 2024 a worth-it experience.
