Spurs fans raise the roof during 16th minute of FA Cup match against Burnley in honour of Tottenham supporter Harry Pitman, 16, knifed to death at Primrose Hill fireworks on New Year's Eve - with goalscorer Pedro Porro dedicating win to the teen

Spurs fans paid tribute to one of their own, Harry Pitman, with a thousands-strong round of applause for the teenager in the 16th minute following his death at a New Year’s firework display.

Tottenham fan Harry, 16, was stabbed to death on Primrose Hill in London as he waited to see the pyrotechnics from the Regent’s Park viewpoint; two boys aged 16 and 17, and three other teens, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley fans were urged to unite in a show of solidarity against knife crime in tonight’s FA Cup third round match at Spurs’ home ground and they did so with panache.

With equal class, right-back Pedro Porro, who scored the single goal in the match that propelled the London side into the next round, dedicated the victory to the youngster, writing online: ‘Dedicating this win and my goal to you, Harry.’

Flanked by screens showing a photo of the teenager and the message ‘Rest in peace, Harry…#endknifecrime’ the 62,850 capacity stadium rang out with the applause of thousands as the match took place.

Fans shared footage of the touching moment on social media, with one captioning their clip: ‘RIP Harry, one of our own’.

The applause lasted for a full minute. Another fan said online: ‘Football at its best.’

Police say Harry, 16, died after a ‘spontaneous fight’ with ‘another male’ escalated into deadly violence at around 11.40pm on New Year’s Eve.

The two teenagers arrested on suspicion of his murder remain in custody; three other males aged 16, 15 and 18 who were also arrested have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

The Met’s detective chief inspector Geoff Grogan, who is leading the investigation, said:’ Our enquiries so far have established that there was no racial or gang element to this incident, it appears to have been a spontaneous fight between two people who didn’t know each other, that quickly escalated to extreme violence.

‘Despite having made arrests, I am still very keen to hear from anyone who has footage or information that could assist our investigation, particularly if you can name any of the people in the images.

‘I would also like to thank everyone who has come forward so far, the response from the public has been exceptional. Please continue to come forward if you can help.’

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had previously paid tribute to the youngster ahead of Friday night’s fixture.

Ange, a father of three boys, said earlier this week: ‘You don’t even want to be thinking about the circumstances of the family and again where we are as a society … the fact that these things still happen like this and young lives are lost for absolutely no reason.

‘I couldn’t even contemplate the grief and the pain of what the family are going through. I’ve always felt that football clubs are more than just the embodiment of what we do. In sport they are an extended community and an extended family for people.

‘If it even gives them the smallest crumb of comfort, then (a tribute is) the least we can do and our fans can do. It’s just tragic and inconceivable that people and families still have to suffer this grief.’

The match itself saw Spurs narrowly inch their way into the next round of the FA Cup following the protracted face-off with Burnley.

Only after the 78th minute, when Pedro Porro sent the ball goalward from 25 yards, were Ange Postecoglou’s side able to breathe a sigh of relief.

It earned Tottenham a deserved fourth win from five matches, but Clarets boss Vincent Kompany could take positives after a solid display and they will now concentrate fully on staying in the Premier League.

Spurs had already beaten Burnley 5-2 this season, but they were missing their hat-trick hero from that match for tonight: Son Heung-min was away for the Asian Cup.

Anass Zaroury blazed over early on before Wilson Odobert tested Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a long-range effort.

Kompany said following the match of his side’s efforts: ‘It was a battle for 97 minutes and right until the end. For us, that is a clear sign of improvement.’
