Following the major additions of ex-Michigan State Spartans defensive lineman Derrick Harmon, ex-Alabam Crimson Tide safety Peyton Woodyard, and ex-Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Evan Stewart, Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks have caught the attention of On3’s Pete Nakos as the “winners” of this offseason’s transfer portal.
Oregon’s ability to appear as a premier destination out of the portal and recruit its typical high-end talent was a strength that put Oregon at the top — a skill valuable to building and maintaining a powerhouse program.
“And the reason why I would say that is because they knew they needed a quarterback. They got Dillon Gabriel, one of the top three available in the winter. And then I mean, Dan Lanning has continued to recruit at Oregon at a really high level,” On3’s Pete Nakos said on Andy Staples On3. “So when you pair probably one of the better portal classes with a roster full of four and five stars, I mean, Oregon has so much depth heading into 2024.”
The added depth to the Ducks’ lineup will certainly aid the program as it transitions to the “hard-nosed” style of play of the newly joined Big Ten Conference.
As the Ducks enter their inaugural season as part of the Big Ten, the program hopes to make a powerful statement against some of the established heavyweights in both recruiting and on-field performance.
