Derek Chisora confronts Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk referee over 'disgraceful' decision

Derek Chisora confronted referee Mark Nelson after Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title.

Usyk won via split decision in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening, handing Fury the first defeat of his professional boxing career.

Fury was winning on two of the judges’ scorecards after eight rounds but the Gypsy King was stunned by an overhand left from Usyk in the ninth and was unable to answer a flurry of heavy shots from the Ukrainian.

Nelson stepped in to give Fury a standing count and while he was allowed to continue, the Gypsy King was unable to get the better of Usyk until the final round.

Chisora, however, accused Nelson of allowing Fury too much time to recover from Usyk’s onslaught.

In an interview with The Stomping Ground, Chisora stopped Nelson after he left the ring and said: ‘Ref, ref, ref, that was the slowest count in boxing history,

‘Get your maths right, bro. It’s one, two, three, four, five, six.’

After Nelson walked away, Chisora said: ‘That was the slowest count in boxing history, do you understand?’

In a separate interview, Chisora described the count as, ‘a disgrace to boxing’.

‘I thought the ref should have let him either finish him off or stop the fight. It seemed like a fair and square stoppage from my point of view.

‘He was all over the place, he falls over. If it was around the other way, if Tyson Fury was doing this to Usyk the referee would have probably stopped it.

‘But for some reason the referee gave him a count and gave him a long 20-second count.

‘The referee stopped him from finishing his opportunity. Everybody at ringside was really upset at the referee.’
