Werner de Jager, man accused of killing pastor wife Liezel, has died

Suspected wife killer Werner de Jager died in the Westville correctional center in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

People believe that the 45-year-old allegedly died from a drug overdose.

De Jager allegedly beat and cut the throat of his wife, Liezel, 38, at their Amanzimtoti home in October 2021.

Four people, including a child killed in Margate flooding

Four people, including a child, have been killed following Sunday’s torrential downpours in Margate.

According to reports, a man, woman, and a young child were in one of the vehicles that washed off the roadway, while a man was struck by lightning.

Emergency services had their hands full on Sunday night following heavy downpours across the district.

WARNING: More DISRUPTIVE rain expected today in KZN

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) issued a high-level five warning for more DISRUPTIVE rain in KwaZulu-Natal today.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is warning the public of level five disruptive rains expected in eThekwini Metro.

This warning is in place down to the south coast on Monday, which could result in localised flooding.

Drowning incidents continue to plague Gauteng schools as two learners die

From Enoch Mpianzi to Latoya Temilton, drowning incidents during excursions continue to plague Gauteng schools. Two learners from the Daveyton Skills School have drowned on the Hennops River near Centurion.

The incident happened on Monday, 15 April.

City of Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said they received a call around 15:14, where the drowning incident was reported.

Home Affairs loses 38 000 working hours amid load shedding

The Department of Home Affairs reports a significant loss of nearly 38,000 working hours over the last five financial years, attributed to the disruptions caused by load shedding.

The Eastern Cape has the highest amount of working hours lost at more than 7 900. Mpumalanga lost 5 990 hours, while Gauteng lost 4 621 working hours.
