No tsunami warning in PH after magnitude 7.0 quake in Vanuatu

MANILA, Philippines — The state seismology bureau said that there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines after a magnitude 7.0 struck Vanuatu on Wednesday. “No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. Phivolcs added that it did not recommend any actions after the Vanuatu earthquake. READ: Magnitude 6.1 quake strikes waters off Balut Island in Sarangani According to the Phivolcs, the earthquake also had a depth of 10 kilometers. On Wednesday morning, the Phivolcs also reported a magnitude 6.1 tectonic earthquake which struck in the waters near Balut Island, Sarangani. READ: Magnitude 6.8 earthquake jolts Sarangani Instrumental intensity II was felt in Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental; Malungon, Glan, Alabel, and Kiamba in Sarangani province; as well as Tupi and T’Boli in South Cotabato. Meanwhile, instrumental intensity I was felt in Maitum in Sarangani; General Santos City; and Lake Sebu in South Cotabato.
