SMC to finish SLEX upgrade by December
MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has committed to finish the expansion of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in time for the holidays in December as it announced a progress rate of 70 percent as of yesterday.
SMC SLEX Inc., the concessionaire for SLEX, is expanding the lane setup of the toll road to six on each side, from three to four at present.
The project seeks to improve traffic flow in the expressway and speed up travel from Metro Manila to Southern Tagalog.
“The SLEX expansion will be a significant boost to Calabarzon, which currently generates almost 20 percent of the country’s GDP,” SMC president and chief executive officer Ramon Ang said, referring to the gross domestic product.
He appealed for understanding from motorists on traffic gridlocks due to ongoing civil works.
