sleater-kinney announce australian tour as part of 30th anniversary celebrations

Sleater-Kinney will return to Australia for the first time since 2016 this May (Chris Hornbecker)

Earlier this year, revered indie rock band Sleater-Kinney released Little Rope, their 11th album.

It was a fitting start to what will be an enormous year for the band as they celebrate their 30 years since they cut their first record in a tiny Melbourne shopfront.

Now the band have confirmed they will return to Australia for the first time since 2016, playing four shows around the country this May.

Since those modest beginnings, Sleater-Kinney have become one of the defining indie rock bands of their generation.

Their jagged, impassioned, catchy and always emotive take on the genre has always appealed to a broad audience, offering music fans something entirely unique with shades of punk, indie rock, and riot-grrrl that feel comfortingly familiar.

Anyone who has ever seen a Sleater-Kinney show knows the joyous energy in these rooms will be palpable, as the band deliver full-throttle takes on their many classic tunes. And, if you’ve heard the new album, you’ll know these songs are going to work beautifully in the Sleater-Kinney show.

Given their rich history with our country, it makes sense that the American band would return on their 30th anniversary tour, and we can’t wait to finally welcome them back when they play theatres in Fremantle and along the east coast.

Catch Sleater-Kinney playing the following shows this May. Tickets are on sale Friday 23 February.

Friday 17 May – Fortitude Music Hall, Jagera Turrbal Land, Brisbane

Sunday 19 May – The Forum, Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Land, Melbourne

Tuesday 21 May – Enmore Theatre, Gadigal Land, Sydney

Thursday 23 May – Metropolis, Whadjuk Noongar Land, Fremantle
