Sithebe making the most out of his second chance at Kaizer Chiefs

Since getting recalled to the starting eleven last month, Siyethemba Sithebe has impressed Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson.

The 31-year-old dreadlocked midfielder has struggled to break into Amakhosi’s lineup this season making only two league appearances. That changed last month when Johnson gave him a rare start against Cape Town City. Before that game, Sithebe had last played for Kaizer Chiefs back in September.

Against City, the former AmaZulu midfielder was Amakhosi’s best player on the park as the teams shared spoils.

“I am really happy to have got back into the team and be given a chance to make a strong comeback, playing the full 90 minutes. I am proud of myself for that,” Sithebe was quoted on Kaizer Chiefs website.

He came on against Chippa United and nearly scored but a miraculous block by Darren Johnson kept the ball out

“I thought it was going in, but eish, it was one of those days when you don’t have the luck,” he laughs.

Against Richards Bay, Sithebe will have another opportunity to shine as he heads to his home province. Amakhosi need a win to solidify their top-eight positions.

“Obviously we are concerned,” he admits.

Sithebe enjoying second life at Kaizer Chiefs

“Especially when we look at some of the games where we made a lot of opportunities but the ball just wasn’t going into the net. We need to pull up our socks and keep working as hard as we can in the remaining games.”

Sithebe added that Kaizer Chiefs still maintained ambitions this season with seven games left to go.

“They are near the bottom of the log and fighting for their survival, so it’s going to be a hard match, but we need those points just as much and therefore we will be going all out to beat them,” he added.

We want to first secure our place in the top eight, but we want more than that. We still want to qualify for a CAF competition next season.”
