SIP: prensa de El Salvador percibe "incertidumbre y temor"

La Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) advirtió este viernes (19.04.2024) en su informe de medio año la existencia de intimidación contra fuentes periodísticas en El Salvador, además señaló que quienes ejercen periodismo en el país centroamericano experimentan “incertidumbre y temor”.

“El periodismo experimenta cada vez más incertidumbre y temor respecto de su labor ante un régimen represivo que bloquea todo acceso a la información”, apuntó la SIP. Agregó que también “amenaza despedir o perseguir y castigar fuentes internas del Gobierno e intimida a las pocas voces profesionales y técnicas que aún contradicen la narrativa propagandística del Gobierno”.

Esto se añade a las decisiones unilaterales del Gobierno de “reservar” u ocultar el manejo de gastos hasta por siete años en diferentes dependencias relacionadas a los arbitrariamente denominados “proyectos estratégicos” y compras públicas de cualquier cuantía.

La entidad señaló que la Fiscalía General de la República “sigue teniendo poderes plenipotenciarios para definir a cualquier ciudadano como terrorista y dirigir la detención supra judicial en el contexto del régimen de excepción”, lo que, a su juicio, “generó un efecto inhibitorio entre periodistas”.

La SIP retomó los registros de la Asociación de Periodistas de El Salvador (APES) de agresiones en el marco de las elecciones generales de febrero y marzo de 2024. Se trata de “173 agresiones contra periodistas mediante amenazas directas, restricciones de movimiento y expulsiones de los recintos de escrutinio por parte de funcionarios, representantes y militantes vestidos del partido oficial, Nuevas Ideas”, del presidente Nayib Bukele.

“Esta violencia generalizada contra la prensa va siendo más común en la medida en que el Gobierno ha copado en su favor a todas las instituciones de control”, subrayó la entidad.
