Singh says feds’ grocery task force ‘has done no tasks, and has no force’
Thousands of Canadians are boycotting Loblaws this month. They’re taking action because the Prime Minister refuses to take on the corporate greed which is driving up prices for Canadians. The Prime Minister has done has set up a task at Grocery Task Force, which has done no task and has no force. Today lobbyists reported their profits are up by nearly 10%. Liberal announcements aren’t going to cut it. Why is this Prime Minister letting big grocery? Rip off Canadians. The Right Honourable Prime Minister. Mr. Speaker, like many others we are concerned with the refusal of Loblaws and others to sign on to the grocery code of Conduct, which we know will protect consumers, will protect growers across this country as well. We will continue to impress upon them, using various means at our disposal, the importance of signing on to that grocery code of conduct. We have also increased the Competition Bureaus ability to go after big groceries in terms of the competition. The uncompetitive options they’re giving to Canadians, and we’ve also moved forward on other ways of supporting Canadians through groceries, like with the National School Food program announced in our budget. Grocery continues to rip off Canadians and Prime Minister is not stopping them.
