'Shining star' killed when car struck wheelchair

The family of a man who died after his wheelchair was struck by a car have paid tribute to their “shining star”.

Jaymie Rajan Tank, 28, was hit by a grey Fiat Punto on Village Road in Heswall, at about 13:30 BST on Sunday, and died later in hospital.

The car also struck a pedestrian and three parked cars.

The 57-year-old pedestrian, described as Mr Tank’s carer, is in a stable condition in hospital, Merseyside Police said.

‘Joy in our lives’

The driver of the car, an 82-year-old man, also remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

In a tribute to Mr Tank released by Merseyside Police, his family said: “Jaymie was the joy in our lives, and the shining star that will always be in our hearts.

“Forever rest in peace, our darling Jaymie.”

Det Sgt Andy Roper, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts are with both Jaymie’s family but also with his carer, who sustained serious injuries in this collision.

“They are being supported by specially trained police officers and we will do everything we can to provide them with answers as to how this incident has occurred.”

DS Roper urged anyone on Village Road who may have seen the incident, or anyone with potentially relevant CCTV or dashboard or doorbell camera footage, to get in touch.
