Sharp opening ceremony uniforms for Paris Games unveiled

Australia has revealed its opening ceremony uniforms for the Olympic Games at a special event 100 days out from Paris 2024.

The sharp outfits were shown off on Wednesday morning by Mariafe Artacho del Solar, Michelle Heyman, Tilly Kearns, Torrie Lewis, Georgia Godwin, Tom Green, Matt Hauser, Nick Malouf, Jeff Dunne and Blake Edwards at Clovelly Beach.

“It’s super exciting, this time in Tokyo, I remember it so well and this next 100 days goes so quick,” water polo star Kearns told TODAY.

Tilly Kearns reveals the Australian opening ceremony uniform at Clovelly Surf Club.

“To be able to have a look at the uniform and get to try it on, it’s so special… events like this make the Games feel a little bit more real.”

Sprint canoeist Green won gold in Tokyo.

“All of us go there with the same goal, but only one of us gets to achieve that,” Green said.

“Going into Paris, with a fresh mindset, being a different distance to Tokyo – we’ve got different goals and new things to work on.

“So it’s going to be exciting.”

The outfits feature Indigenous artwork ‘Walking Together’ from Olympic boxer Paul Fleming and ‘Ngalmun Danalaig (Our Way of Life)’ from Torres Strait Island artist David Bosun, used in the pocket square, scarf and with the Olympians’ oath on the inside lining.

The athletes were joined by Australian Olympic team chef de mission and cycling great Anna Meares.

“Wearing an Australian Olympic opening ceremony uniform is a rare and special moment,” Meares said.

“I have had the honour of receiving four Australian Olympic team ceremony uniforms and I treasure each one.

“For Olympians, it brings us together, from different sports, backgrounds and experiences, proudly uniting us through that team uniform.

“I love that the Olympians’ oath will sit on the inside lining at heart level, with the support of all Australia’s Olympic champions throughout history wrapping around each of our team members for Paris.

“I know Aussie athletes are working hard to earn their own opportunity to don this uniform in Paris and with 100 days to go, this will add excitement and inspiration to the training and competition grind knowing this awaits their efforts.”
