إستشاري الشارقة يستعرض تداعيات المنخفض الجوي الأخير
SHARJAH, 25th April, 2024 (WAM) – Demonstrating its continued dedication to the Sharjah community, the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) convened today to discuss decisive measures to address the challenges posed by the recent climate situation. These measures aim to mitigate the impact on daily life across the emirate’s cities and regions.
This meeting reflects the SCC’s ongoing commitment to serve as a platform for the community’s voice and advocate for the needs of both citizens and residents. The council in a statement said it remains firmly committed to promoting the well-being of the community and enhancing the overall quality of life in Sharjah.
The council members were highly involved in considering a wide range of viewpoints, offering helpful suggestions to address upcoming climate challenges.
Views and reviews were shared, with a particular emphasis on suggestions and workable strategies to strengthen Sharjah’s ability to adapt to future climatic changes, as well as to manage risk and crises.
The session took place on Thursday at the council headquarters in Sharjah, chaired by Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, the Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC).
During the session, a number of approaches to improving climate change policies were examined, as well as the effect of the environmental, health, and social impacts of the bad weather conditions recently experienced in the Emirate of Sharjah. The infrastructure and its various amenities were also examined.
The Council Chairman, Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, gave a speech at the beginning of the meeting to highlight the significance of the session, underscoring the recommendations aimed at enhancing preparedness and readiness to face the environmental and climatic challenges.
Subsequently, the council members participated in discussing their contributions to the five primary subjects of the meeting. These included examining the effects of the current weather on Sharjah’s public services and infrastructure as well as the emergency preparations and precautions being put in place to deal with the effects of severe weather. The role that locals and citizens play in adapting to and preparing for climate change, increasing public awareness of the threats posed by it, developing practical guidelines and regulations that reduce the negative impacts of extreme weather, and achieving social and environmental sustainability were other topics covered in the discussions.
Members of the council praised the government’s efforts and leadership directives in supporting all sectors and placing a priority on the well-being of the community, after assessing the effects of the recent weather on these areas.
Members commended the prompt and efficient response by the appropriate authorities in Sharjah during the discussion of the emergency preparations put in place to lessen the impact of weather conditions. It was underlined how crucial it is to create sophisticated preventive strategies, which should include using contemporary technology to anticipate weather conditions and provide residents and people the required direction and warnings.
Members urged for increasing awareness of the significance of environmental conservation and adopting sustainable environmental behaviours, and they emphasised the role that individuals and communities must play in addressing climate change. Additionally, they highlighted the need of promoting community involvement in environmental preservation projects and efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change. They also encouraged people to follow the advice of the appropriate authorities and stay inside their houses unless necessary.
This involves offering residents and people educational sessions and training programmes. The significance of cooperation across the public, business, and civil society sectors was underscored by the participants in order to achieve the desired goals.
They also highlighted the importance of volunteerism and the efforts that organisations, people, and families make to support afflicted persons and foster community cohesiveness.
The discussion also focused on formulating effective recommendations and policies to mitigate the impacts of weather conditions and achieve environmental and social sustainability.
In order to guarantee environmental protection and sustainable development, focus has been placed on the significance of integrating sustainability concepts and pollution control into government policies, as well as increasing investment in green infrastructure and environmental programmes.
The establishment of shelters and other facilities, as well as increasing public awareness and preparing infrastructure and personnel to handle such incidents, were also emphasised as critical actions.
