Seahawks add quarterback following Geno Smith groin injury
The Seattle Seahawks did some more practice squad shuffling on Friday.
Former Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion has returned to the Seahawks. Mannion was part of the preseason roster in 2021, as well as the practice squad roster last season. The 31-year-old started two games with the Minnesota Vikings, but has otherwise played sparingly sign he was drafted by the Rams in 2015.
To make way for Mannion, Seattle let go of running back SaRodorick Thompson, who’s been in and out of the practice squad all season, such that he is almost the embodiment of the Grandpa Simpson meme.
Earlier in the week the Seahawks lost Brett Rypien to the New York Jets, leaving them without a PS/emergency third option at QB. On Thursday, Geno Smith popped up on the injury report as a limited participant with a groin injury. It doesn’t take a whole lot to connect the dots.
We’ll know more about Geno’s status when the Seahawks conclude their Friday practice.
