RR bowling coach Shane Bond has lauded captain Sanju Samson’s leadership in the ongoing season, saying that the Rajasthan skipper has been brilliant with the bat too in IPL 2024.The Royals have been riding high lately, securing the second spot in the standings with eight wins out of ten matches. A victory against DC could catapult them back to the top, knocking Kolkata Knight Riders from their perch. Despite a nail-biting loss to SRH in their previous game, the atmosphere within the Royals’ camp remains positive.
“I am really impressed obviously coming into this team for the first time. It’s been fantastic, he (Samson) is a fun guy. I think what he has been learning for the couple of years is managing his time, managing his energy. IPL is an energy-sapping competition, especially the backend and it’s exciting to see his leadership. He has played beautifully and I am happy that he has been selected in the T20 World Cup squad,” Shane Bond said in the pre-match press conference.

Their success this season can be attributed to their strong batting lineup, featuring Riyan Parag, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Jos Buttler, all of whom have amassed over 300 runs each, a feat unmatched by any other team in the league. Additionally, the team can rely on the power-hitting prowess of Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell, along with the promising talent of Dhruv Jurel in the lower order.
RR have been impressive in the ongoing IPL, winning eight of their ten games and currently second in the points table. “We only lost 2 games in the tournament so we understand we are a tough team to beat. Credit to the boys, they played beautifully throughout the tournament,” Bond added.
A significant subplot to look for on Tuesday is the battle between Pant and Samson. While both keeper-batters have been included in India’s T20 World Cup team, it remains unclear who would be the ultimate choice for the playing 11. A solid IPL season finale might make the case for either of the two. When these two teams faced earlier this season in Jaipur, the Royals emerged victorious by a narrow 12-run margin. A similar result on Tuesday might effectively end DC’s IPL campaign.
