Putin Backs Biden Over Trump for U.S. Presidency: 'He Is Predictable'

It’s not exactly an endorsement in the United States presidential race. But the Russian President has offered his preference.

Knewz.com has learned Vladimir Putin’s words may surprise political watchers. He said he wants incumbent Joe Biden to win a second term in November, instead of Donald Trump.

Putin revealed his choice in an interview on Wednesday, February 14 on Russian government TV.

BBC News reported he was asked: “For us, who’s better, Biden or Trump?”

Putin called Biden, 81, a “politician of the old school.” Biden’s main opponent is Trump, 77.

Putin, 71, explained he considers Biden “a more experienced person. He is predictable.”

Putin doubted Biden’s mental capacities would be an issue, even though a special counsel brought that up in a report on Biden’s handling of classified documents earlier in February.

But according to USA Today, Putin added that he’s willing to “work with any U.S. leader who wins the trust of the American people.”

Some U.S. officials might dispute that Putin’s willing to work with his U.S. counterpart, since Putin has not talked with Biden in two years. Their last conversation was 12 days before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and their last face-to-face meeting was in June 2021.

Putin revealed during that summit in Switzerland, both leaders were “peeking” at their notes from time to time.

“Even then, people were saying that he was incompetent,” Putin said. “But I did not see anything of this sort.”

Yet Putin remembers one of the U.S. President’s awkward moments.

“He banged his head on his helicopter when he was getting out of it,” Putin said. Fox News noted that actually occurred in June 2023, after Biden stumbled over a sandbag and fell at the Air Force Academy commencement in Colorado.

While some Republicans seemingly have developed a video library of Biden stumbles and mumbles, Putin sounded forgiving.

“Who hasn’t banged their head on something?” Putin asked.

Trump jumped on Putin’s words about Biden during a campaign rally in South Carolina on Wednesday, February 14.

“President Putin of Russia has just given me a great compliment,” the Republican said via ABC News. “That’s a good thing. And of course, he would say that.”

But Putin has spoken politely of Trump through the years as well. The Russian leader called him “outstanding and talented” during the 2016 U.S. campaign, as well as “a genius.”

Putin’s public leaning toward Biden came even though Knewz.com has reported on Trump comments in recent days seemingly favoring Russian aggression.

Trump indicated he would encourage Russians to do “whatever the hell they want” against NATO countries that don’t spend enough on defense.

Biden has called the Russian president a “killer,” a “pure thug” and a “war criminal.”

Neither Putin nor Trump has announced which candidate they support in Russia’s presidential race, taking place from March 15-17.

Putin is up for another term; his most vocal rival has recently been barred from the ballot.
