Conservatives have already said they’re voting against this budget. They’re voting against fairness. They will be voting against asking the ultra rich to pay their share. The big sell is on as the Prime Minister rallies his MPs around budget 2024, framing it as a budget to tax Canada’s ultra rich. There’s $53 billion in new spending on a new Canada Disability benefit. A National School foods program. And above all, housing, housing and more housing. We’re launching the most ambitious and comprehensive housing plan this country has ever seen. We think that we have a plan that’s going to help address the concerns not just of our our political counterparts in the House of Commons, but Canadians who live in our communities. So it’s a budget that’s meant to appeal to NDP voters and and progressive voters in general. And it’s normal on the other hand, on the other side of the the the spectrum that Conservatives. Dislike it very much. Neil Blonde at McGill says it’s no surprise the budget has no fans among Conservatives. And he adds the NDP just aren’t believable when Jagmeet Singh says he’s not certain if the NDP will support it. Lack of credibility is a problem. Both parties in the supply and confidence deal share. It’s a trust issue really, and many people don’t trust the Liberals anymore, the the, the Prime Minister. And so it’s hard to when trust is gone, it’s hard to bring it back. My best advice to Canadians would be don’t hold your breath. Conservative housing critics Scott Acheson says he can distinctly remember Justin Trudeau making big housing promises 7 years ago. When he launched the National Housing Strategy. The solution to the housing crisis in this country is a classically small C conservative solution. It’s less government. We need to get the, as Pierre says, the local gatekeepers out of the way in Ottawa. Charlie Lee, City News.
