Maserati Tridente Electric Speedboat Is Just in Time for Summer

• Maserati’s Folgore models won’t be the brand’s only EVs for long: The Italian automaker is dipping its toe in the warm Adriatic waters by showing off the upcoming Tridente powerboat.

Imagine zooming to the coast in your Maserati for a day on the sea in a matching powerboat. That fantasy could become your reality, as the Italian automaker has shown a prototype of its new Tridente powerboat. And as if a boat joining the lineup wasn’t enough of a twist, consider that the Tridente is entirely electric, making it part of an emerging electric boat segment.

Developed in conjunction with EV marine company VitaPower, the Tridente appears to be based on Vita’s Lion powerboat concept but features upgrades that make it a true Maserati. There’s a large touchscreen at the helm, seating for eight, and a sundeck bed and swim platform at the stern. The Tridente comes with four batteries, two on the starboard side and the other two on the port side.

The 34-foot speedboat has a sleek look, shown here painted in a matte rose gold finish and topped with a cream-colored interior. Under that paint are a carbon-fiber hull and two electric motors totaling 600 horsepower.

Maserati says that the Tridente is capable of a top speed of up to 40 knots and can cruise at 25 knots for up to around 43 miles (70 km) before needing to be recharged. Recharging, it’s said, can happen via a DC connection, and the battery can be replenished in as little as an hour.

Intended to serve as a day boat or a tender for a larger yacht, the Tridente is claimed to have sufficient range to cross Lake Como or to cruise from points of interest along the coastline with none of the emissions or odor of a gas-powered engine. A sun canopy can provide shade during the day, and a small cabin is nestled ahead of the helm and features a small bed, a toilet, and a sink.

One thing the Tridente will not share with its automotive siblings is its seven-figure price. The Tridente is available for order now, with a starting price of $2,660,000 at current exchange rates, and delivery to take around 10 months.
