In Chernihiv, over 60 people have been injured after the Russian strike on April 17. There may still be people under the rubble, according to Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleksii Kuleba, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
“Now we know about more than 50 victims, including three children, and 11 dead. There may be people under the rubble,” Kuleba says.
According to him, a rescue operation is underway in the city.
“An eight-story building was destroyed, four high-rise buildings, a hospital, a higher education institution, and dozens of cars were damaged. Rescuers and medics are making every effort to get people out and save their lives and health. All emergency services are working,” Kuleba adds, noting that he is constantly in touch with the President and the head of the Presidential Administration about the situation in the city.
Shortly afterward, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that as of 12:46 p.m., there were 13 killed and more than 60 injured in Chernihiv. In addition, two children are among the victims.
“The victims are being provided with the necessary assistance. Police officers are making door-to-door visits to the damaged buildings and helping the wounded. Psychologists continue to work,” he writes.
According to the State Emergency Service, as of 12:47 p.m., 13 people were preliminarily killed and 61 others were injured, including 2 children. Three people were rescued from the rubble.
“There are probably still people under the rubble of the partially destroyed building,” the rescuers add.
