A Russian occupier has been apprehended in Poland while attempting to enter Europe right from the front lines in Ukraine, according to RMF FM.
Polish border guards arrested the Russian aggressor who had deserted immediately after crossing the Belarusian border.
Details about the incident are scarce, but Polish border guards revealed that the detained Russian soldier is 41 years old.
At the time of his arrest, he was in civilian clothes and unarmed. Polish border guards believe he was attempting to illegally enter Poland through Belarus, directly from the Ukrainian front.
“According to our information, he was found with Russian military documents, including a contract with the Russian army to participate in military actions against Ukraine,” the report says.
In an attempt to enter Europe, the Russian national allegedly sought to exploit the migration channel organized by Alexander Lukashenko’s regime in Belarus, which is primarily used by foreigners from the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.
Journalists from RMF FM have found out that the 41-year-old deserter is currently undergoing thorough scrutiny by Polish authorities. However, Polish border services have refrained from providing further detailed comments on the incident.
Migration crisis in Europe
The issue of migrants attempting to illegally cross the Belarus-Poland border and enter Europe has been ongoing for some time. For instance, there was a new surge in the crisis in 2021.
Moreover, it is likely artificially created, as migrants from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and impoverished African countries were transported to Belarus via special flights.
In November 2021, it was reported that the European Commission allocated up to 3.5 million euros to repatriate migrants from Belarus to their countries of origin. Meanwhile, Belarus claimed that up to 7,000 migrants were present in the country.
