The Defense Ministry also reported on X that Russia lost 11 tanks, nine armored vehicles, 27 artillery, 25 drones, 41 vehicles and fuel tanks and five pieces of special equipment in the last 24 hours.

Russia’s more than 1,000 losses in a single day brought its reported casualty total to 439,190 since the invasion began on February 24, 2022.

According to the Ukraine Defense Ministry, its troops have eliminated 6,904 tanks, 13,216 armored combat vehicles, 10,931 artillery and 8,578 drones belonging to Russia’s military.

Neither Russia nor Ukraine tallies their own losses publicly, so it’s unclear how accurate figures released by each side are.

Zelensky Administration Shakeup

The military successes come amid a shakeup among Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration.

According to The Telegraph on March 26, Zelensky dismissed Oleksiy Danilov as Ukraine’s security council secretary. Danilov is being replaced by Oleksandr Lytvynenko, the foreign intelligence service chief.

There has been no explanation for the changes in leadership.

Ukraine’s national security and defense council are in charge of national security and include Kyiv’s highest-ranking political, security and defense chiefs.

Ukraine Weapon Spending

While Ukraine awaits further funding from the United States — which has been held up in Congress for months — it’s spending its own money on homemade weapons.

According to The Associated Press, Kyiv’s government is flooding money into homemade weapons programs.

Soldiers of both Russia and Ukraine have been made to use

The Ukrainian government inserted approximately $1.4 billion into its budget to purchase and manufacture weapons on its own turf. That is 20 times more than what was budgeted before Russia’s invasion in 2022.

In another development, many of those weapons are coming from private companies that are sprouting up all over the country. The industry was previously dominated by state-owned companies.

For example, one privately-owned factory that opened last year is now making approximately 20,000 shells a month.

“I feel that we are bringing our country closer to victory,” Anatolli Kuzmin told The Associated Press.

Ukraine’s rush to replenish weapons comes as Russia is gaining momentum in the fight.

Moscow has taken over approximately a quarter of the country, and Ukrainian troops are often greatly outnumbered on the battlefield.

“You need a mortar not in three years, you need it now, preferably yesterday,” Taras Chmut, director of the Come Back Alive Foundation, an organization that has raised over $260 million in the last 10 years to arm Ukraine, told The Associated Press.
