Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has approved the transit of certain types of weapons through Romanian territory for Ukraine. He also confirmed the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16s in Fetesti, according to Digi24.

It is noted that the President of Romania informed the parliament by letter that he approved the transit of military assistance to Ukraine from Finland.

Additionally, Iohannis has agreed to train around 50 Ukrainian military personnel.

This matter is to be discussed at a meeting of the leaders of both chambers of the Romanian parliament on Monday. A vote in the chamber is expected to take place at the next joint plenary session.

The authorities have not specified when exactly the training of Ukrainian military personnel will begin. However, according to sources cited by the news agency, they are expected to arrive at the Fetesti airbase this summer.

It is expected that the training of F-16 pilots will be completed by the end of the year.

Romania is increasing its military potential

Work has begun in Romania to expand the military complex of the 57th Air Base of the Romanian Air Force Mihail Kogalniceanu. The largest NATO military base in Europe could appear as early as 2040.

Earlier, Iohannis officially announced his desire to run for the position of NATO Secretary General.
