KATY, Texas (AP) — Darrione Rogers hit 7 of 10 shots from 3-point range and scored 25 points to help power No. 25 Mississippi State to a 102-58 rout of Tulsa on Sunday, the final day of the Van Chancellor Classic.
Mississippi State coach Sam Purcell missed the game with an illness. Assistant coach Michelle Clark-Heard served as acting head coach for the game as the Bulldogs (8-0) matched their 2019-20 season start and topped 100 points for the first time since beating Mississippi Valley State 104-47 to open the 2022-23 season.
The Bulldogs jumped to a 26-15 lead after a quarter by hitting 4 3-pointers and held a 50-32 advantage by halftime. They shot 50.7% from the field (35 of 69), including 14 of 29 from distance, and were 16 of 18 from the line.
Six players reached double-figure scoring for Mississippi State. Debreasha Powe hit 5 of 12 from long range and finished with 21 points. Lauren Park-Lane had 14 points, five rebounds and nine assists and JerKaila Jordan, Erynn Barnum and Mjracle Sheppard each had 10 points and Jordan pulled down 13 rebounds.
Temira Poindexter led Tulsa (5-2) with 23 points and Delanie Crawford added 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Mississippi State plays host to unbeaten Miami on Wednesday in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Tulsa plays at TCU on Friday.
