Gardaí launch probe as Blanchardstown gang linked to late night Meath raids
Gardaí in Meath are on the hunt for a gang who carried out a number of burglaries in Kells that included the theft of cars during the early hours of yesterday (Thursday) morning.
Houses in the Glebe estate, on the outskirts of the town, were targeted in break-ins detectives believe may be linked and carried out by a Blanchardstown based gang.
A garda spokesperson confirmed investigating officers were probing the circumstances surrounding yesterday’s burglaries.
“Two burglaries occurred in the Glebe in the early hours of Thursday 11th January, 2024,” said the spokesperson.
“Items of property were taken and the matter is under investigation.”
It’s also understood gardaí are investigating a possible third burglary in an estate located not far from the Glebe during which another car was also stolen.
The suspected gang, who are well known to gardaí, are also believed to have links to Ireland’s latest gangland victim, Jason Hennessy Snr, who was shot dead in Blanchardstown’s Browne’s Steakhouse on Christmas Eve.
The 48-year-old was shot three times as he ran at his killer Tristan Sherry who was overpowered and fatally stabbed seconds after the shooting.
Gardaí, meanwhile, are in the throes of drawing up a major security operation ahead of the funerals of Hennessy and Sherry.
Senior gardaí hope such an operation will avert any reprisal attempts.
