MG Cyberster spotted testing in Australia

Signs of the impending launch of the MG Cyberster are starting to show up here in Australia, with a number of test cars in the country undergoing engineering evaluation by MG Australia.

One such engineering car was spotted by CarsGuide in Sydney’s Harbour Tunnel, a red MG Cyberster electric car with stickers indicating it’s an evaluation car.

An MG Australia spokesperson confirmed to CarsGuide testing is currently underway with the model on track for a launch at the end of the year. Furthermore, National Sales Manager for MG Brad Chruszcz said there are two variants under testing.

“We’re excited for the Cyberster to arrive in Australia later this year,” said Chruszcz.

“We can confirm that there are currently two different variants on our shores for testing, localisation and compliance purposes.

“This is our centenary year with the Cyberster due to arrive in time for our celebration with styling that pays homage to MG roadsters of the past but features future forward technology with a spine tingling driving experience.

“Having seen the Cyberster in the flesh, I can tell you that it lives up to the hype and will make the daily commute a lot more fun.”

It’s possible the two variants will comprise a rear-wheel drive version with 231kW and an all-wheel drive model with 400kW as seen in China.

Pricing overseas indicates the Cyberster could start from as much as $100,000 here in Australia.
