The Philadelphia Flyers are “believed” to be adding another young Russian goalie to their system in Ivan Fedotov, per a report from Elliotte Friedman.

News broke that KHL side CSKA Moscow had terminated Fedotov’s contract, and that the 27-year-old would soon officially be on the move to Philadelphia.

While there haven’t been many details released to the public, it is widely believed that Fedotov will jump immediately into the NHL lineup instead of starting with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL and working his way up.

It should be noted that for Fedotov to be able to play for the Flyers, the NHL would have to lift the suspension on his one-year entry-level contract.

During the 2023-24 season, Fedotov has recorded a .914 SV% and 2.37 GAA in his 44 games with CSKA Moscow. Across his eight-year KHL career (which was interrupted by Russia’s mandate for all male citizens aged 18-27 to serve at least one year of active duty in the military), he played 133 games, collecting a 2.22 GAA and a .921 SV%.

More reports are expected to emerge regarding this move, but all signs are pointing to the Flyers strengthening their goaltending core even further with this addition.
