Red Sox SP Tanner Houck throws complete game shutout to beat Guardians 2-0
The Boston Red Sox entered Wednesday with a chance to end their two-game skid, and they did so with a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park.
Red Sox starter Tanner Houck was dominant in his fourth start of the 2024 season, throwing a complete game shutout against the AL Central’s first-place team. In total, he threw just 94 pitches, allowed just three hits and struck out nine.
This is the first time that a Boston pitcher has thrown a complete game shutout since Nathan Eovaldi achieved the feat in 2022.
The Red Sox lineup didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard, as they had just five hits on the day. Their first run came on a controversial balk in the bottom of the third, and their second and final run came from a Connor Wong solo shot over the Green Monster.
Boston’s victory over Cleveland gives them 10 wins on the year and keeps their chances of a series split alive heading into Thursday’s afternoon battle.
