Red Sox announce lineup for 2024 Opening Day vs. Mariners
After an offseason that was more of a bust than a boom, the Boston Red Sox are back in action on Thursday night, as they take on the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park at 10:10 p.m. ET.
Before the game, the team announced their lineup for the Opening Day matchup, which features Brayan Bello on the bump for the first time in his young career.
The batting order is as follows:
- LF Jarren Duran
- 3B Rafael Devers
- SS Trevor Story
- 1B Triston Casas
- RF Tyler O’Neill
- DH Masataka Yoshida
- CF Ceddanne Rafaela
- 2B Enmanuel Valdez
- C Connor Wong
This might be Boston’s expected lineup until infielder Vaughn Grissom, who the Red Sox acquired in the Chris Sale trade, returns from injury.
Interestingly, five members of Boston’s starting nine are making their first Opening Day lineup for the club – Duran, O’Neill, Rafaela, Valdez and Wong.
Last year, the Red Sox and Mariners split their season series 3-3 with both teams scoring 33 runs. Seattle still finished six wins above Boston at the end of the year.
