Red Sox acquire RHP in trade with Brewers
After the Boston Red Sox’s loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday night, the club made a trade with a National League team.
The Red Sox announced that they sent cash considerations to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez.
Gutierrez was immediately optioned to Triple-A Worcester, and to make room for him on the 40-man roster, Boston transferred shortstop Trevor Story to the 60-day injured list.
The 28-year-old was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as a free agent in 2016. This year, he spent spring training and one regular-season game with the Miami Marlins before being designated for assignment and claimed by Milwaukee.
In his MLB career, Gutierrez has posted a 5.47 ERA and 1.526 WHIP in 154 2/3 innings.
With all of the injuries that the Red Sox have had to their pitching staff so far this season, it’s never a bad idea to try to find more arms.
