Kaizer Chiefs need to hire a new permanent boss and they aren’t short of options.
HUGE MLS SALARIES: Njabulo Blom, Lionel Messi and more
Kaizer Chiefs managerial candidates
The favourites
Cavin Johnson
Possession is nine-tenths of the law, or so they say. Interim boss Johnson certainly isn’t the favourite front-runner but he’s a serious option for the job. That is, especially if he steers Amakhosi to a respectable league finish in the second half of the campaign. He’s claimed four wins from seven league matches at the helm and will be looking forward to the end of the AFCON break to get back to work. The club’s next outing is against TS Galaxy on 13 February.
WOW: New R46.7m Sundowns star and Man United defender separated at birth?
Callisto Pasuwa
The Nyasa Big Bullets coach is a wanted man after steering his side to a quadruple in Malawi just two weeks ago. Pasuwa’s club intends for him to see out his current contract until December 2024. Bullets have won five league titles in a row and aren’t in any rush to let go of their boss. Their source believes Big Bullets will only let Pasuwa go if they can find a suitable replacement, but they are also in the process of trying to extend his current deal. It sounds as though Chiefs will have to fight hard if they want to get their man.

Sven Vandenbroeck
44-year-old Belgian Vandenbroeck has vast experience coaching African teams both at club and international levels. He’s most recently held posts with Wydad in Morocco and Belouizdad in Algeria. Could he bring a new level of North African tactical smartness to Chiefs?
STARS OF AFCON: Meet Nigeria’s R2.2 Billion man, Victor Osimhen
Nasreddine Nabi
The Tunisian tactician was on the verge of sealing a switch to Chiefs but the deal fell through when he insisted on bringing certain members of his current technical team. Amakhosi vetoed that and it left the deal dead in the water. Like Vandenbroeck, he’s highly decorated with current club Young Africans.
COLUMN: Is nepotism holding Kaizer Chiefs back?
The pipe dream
Pitso Mosimane
Do we even need to furnish any details at this point? The links between Chiefs and Jingles will never go away, but it’s also likely that he will never manage the Naturena team.
