An area of Derry city centre which had been closed to the public due to what the PSNI had described as an “insecure building” has now reopened.
Butcher Street, which runs from the Diamond towards the Butcher Gate in the historic Derry Walls, had been closed entirely.
The nearby Fahan Street, Waterloo Street and Upper Magazine Street areas had also been partially closed.
Belfast Live understands the closure has been caused by a large piece of metal having been dislodged by Storm Isha.
The area has now been reopened.
A spokesperson for the PSNI had earlier said: “Due to a report of an insecure building, Butcher Street in Derry / Londonderry is currently closed to traffic and pedestrians.
“Magazine Street, Fahan Street and Waterloo Street in the same area are also partially closed, so please avoid the area.”
A spokesperson for Apex Housing, which has offices on Butcher Street opposite the Maldron Hotel, said: “Our office in Derry/Londonderry is currently closed to the public as a result of damage caused by Storm Isha. Butcher Street is currently closed to traffic and pedestrians. We will update with further information as soon as possible.”
