Weather maps show exact days when snow is forecast to return to Lancashire

Another blast of snow is being forecast to sweep into the UK with weather maps showing when it could hit Lancashire.

WXCharts shows our region shrouded in purple on several days next week, meaning snow is on the way. Forecasters are expecting that thick bands of the white stuff will hit the region overnight between Wednesday, February 21 and Thursday, February 22, with several centimetres falling in some places.

More heavy snow is then predicted to fall across the whole of Lancashire overnight between Thursday, February 22, and Friday, February 23. Another thick wall of snow is then forecast to arrive at 6am on Sunday (February 25) and will stretch from Scotland to the midlands.

If it proves accurate, then there is likely to be significant disruption across Lancashire on several days with most places appearing under the purple snow cloud. According to BristolLive, the Met Office points to northerly and easterly winds towards the end of the month which would make for colder and drier weather.

Forecast for Wednesday, February 21

The authority says: “During late February and early March, there is a slightly higher than normal likelihood of northerly or easterly winds occurring, which would increase the chance of colder and drier than average conditions. Spells of milder and wetter weather are still likely to occur at times, especially in the south and south west, with the potential for snow on the boundary between milder and colder air.”

Meanwhile, the BBC’s long-range forecast states: “The pattern through late February and early March looks like being similar, with low-pressure systems closer to the southern UK than the north, and high pressure still trying to press down from the north. This could give some drier and chillier periods, more likely across the northern UK, with relatively mild conditions for southern regions, or at least near seasonal overall.

“Some colder air could occasionally move south in between weather systems, with risks of snow at the cold/warm boundary.”
