opposition lauds message on unity by king

PETALING JAYA: Opposition MPs will uphold the call made by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to preserve unity among the races and will stay clear from sensitive issues, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic).

The Opposition leader praised the King’s speech when His Majesty touched on the issue of unity.

“This is because Tuanku mentioned that only unity will guarantee our country’s future.

“The message on unity from His Majesty is apt and there was a clear reminder not to touch on the 3R issues,” said Hamzah when contacted yesterday.

Beluran MP and Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said there were three main messages that were highlighted in the King’s royal address, including the issue of unity, national debt and the initiatives for the future of the country.

“Touching on national debt, it shows that there is concern over the state economy.

“The cost of living and decline in the ringgit have impacted the people’s livelihood.

“The government must give serious thought to this, which is getting critical. There must be some effective changes in policies, not in piecemeal form for short-term political mileage,” he said.

Newly minted Kemaman MP Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said all quarters have to work together and reduce politicking.

“Everyone must cooperate. The position of states in the Federation also has to be respected for the roles they play in an independent country like Malaysia,” he said when met by RTM at Parliament.

He said that His Majesty’s decree stressed on many aspects holistically, such as unity, strengthening the economy and the need to have a clear direction moving forward, among others.

In a Facebook post, PAS on behalf of its MPs, said they are eager for the coming Dewan Rakyat sitting, while quoting Sultan Ibrahim’s message for MPs to behave.

“God willing, there will be better debates and mature action. May the sitting be lively until the last day,” they said in the brief post.
