The Surrey streets that dominate UK's 'most expensive list' with £9m homes

Surrey is home to four of the UK’s five most expensive streets outside London. This is according to Halifax and based on analysis of Land Registry and Royal Mail transaction data between 2018 and 2023. The fifth street was found a whisker over the county’s border in Berkshire.

Weybridge ’s East Road on the exclusive St George’s Hill estate was named the country’s priciest place to purchase a home not in the capital. It comes as properties in the “leafy oasis” street set buyers back an average of £9million.

Westbrook Hill between Godalming and Farnham followed closely behind on the list and was just £50,000 more affordable, according to the bank. Virginia Water’s West Drive placed third in the Southeast at £8.8million.

Weybridge featured for a second time with Camp End Road – also on the St George’s Hill estate – where homes cost an average of £7million. Camp End Road ranked fifth with Titlark’s Hill the only non-Surrey entry.

All five streets are private and not even Google Maps can visit – though the homes are known to have vast driveways, gardens, and pools. The St George’s Hill estate also has lawn tennis and golf clubs with a clubhouse and sauna while Titlark’s Hill sits between Wentwork and Sunningdale golf courses.

Street Average house price
East Road, Weybridge £9,010,000
Westbrook Hill, Godalming £8,960,000
West Drive, Virginia Water £8,810,000
Titlarks Hill, Ascot £7,750,000
Camp End Road, Weybridge £7,010,000

Halifax’s mortgages director, Kim Kinnaird, described buying a home as an expensive undertaking likely to be the single biggest purchase most people will make. She said: “Purchasing a property on one of Britain’s most expensive streets comes with a colossal price tag.”

And added: “It’ll be no surprise that house prices in London continue to dominate, with the top 10 priciest streets to buy a home all in the capital. But the gap between the most expensive streets is vast, depending on the region you live in.

Titlarks Hill on the Berkshire birder with Surrey was the only non-Surrey street to feature in the Southeast, according to Halifax

“Even in the most expensive region outside London, the South East, the top 10 most expensive streets are, on average, £10million cheaper than their London equivalents.” The most expensive street not in London or the South East was Old Hall Road in the Lake District with views across Lake Windermere for £4million.

London’s Grosvenor Square in Mayfair was named the UK’s overall priciest street at more than £20million. Halifax continued that the country’s costliest properties are almost 72 times more expensive than the typical UK home at £284,000. Rightmove figures, however, show the average property in Surrey sold for £631,000 in the past 12 months.
