Province rebrands skilled trades program, hopes to promote career paths

123 Go. There are plenty of times that I’m the only female in the room and you just need to find that strength and know that at the end of the day that we are all on equal ground and that we can do the same thing. At the end of the day, you want a job to get done and as long it doesn’t matter your background, if you’re educated and you know what you’re doing, you get the same opportunities as everyone else. There’s no reason that there should be a barrier for anyone to enter the trades. And then when you start up, OK, the schools are one of the main things that we’re really targeting. You can see by this event here today that these aren’t just high school students, we’re actually have people here from grade 7-8 and nine. So we’ve sort of captured them when they’re fairly young. And that’s again why the appeal with the swag that we have in the new branding and the new logo to appeal to young, young people because we need them. And I say when we need them, we need newcomers and we also need a lot more women in the trade. So that’s what we’re really targeting. But one of the great things is that our province in the last year has launched a mobile trailer. So it’s mobile trailer with all the different trades are represented within the trailer and we can go around the province and visit some of the smaller communities. And that the people can come out from the community, the students, and and get into the trailer, try electrical, try woodwork and try mechanical. I talked to me about the welding booth. What did you see? What did you do? Well, I got to see people like kind of burn metal. I actually found that pretty cool. Did you ever considered being a welder before today? Maybe not, but definitely on the hospital one actually really caught my eye. I really enjoyed it. What was the hospital one like? It was really cool. She talked to me about being a registered nurse and I actually am actually considering that, doing that right after high school.
