Prospect Park Has a New Food Stand

Purslane Cafe is opening at the Prospect Park Boathouse.

The Prospect Park Boathouse will be adding a cafe, run by the Oberon Group, the same team behind Brooklyn wine bars, June, Rucola, Rhodora, and Anaïs, as well as Clara in the New York Historical Society. Opening on May 24, it’s called Purslane Cafe, named after the hospitality group’s catering arm of the same name, and also emphasizes food waste reduction, a spokesperson says. There will be coffee, scones, brownies, and sandwiches like fig and prosciutto, or chicken curry, operating daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’ll be one of the only food options inside the park, joining Daniel Eddy’s Winner in the Park at the Prospect Park Picnic House.

The Brooklyn Museum has a new food truck

Nicole and Michael Nicholas, who run Flatbush vegan spot, Aunts et Uncles, have set up a summer food truck at the Brooklyn Museum. Find the food stand, Wednesday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A food festival in the Catskills

The second annual food festival, Catskill Cuisine, is back on May 10 through 12, with a portion of the events held at the same site where the 1969 Woodstock Festival took place. Participants include celebrity chefs like Andrew Zimmern, Marcus Samuelsson, and Melba Wilson, according to a spokesperson. Tickets are available for purchase online.

A bakery that takes EBT/SNAP benefits goes viral

Jatee Kearsley, who runs Je T’aime Patisserie, specializing in viennoiserie in Bed-Stuy, has become a model for encouraging more businesses like hers to get the permits to accept government assistance food programs. “I made sure that whenever I opened my bakery, I was going to be for the community and affordable, something that anyone on any budget could afford,” Kearsley tells radio station WBUR, reporting on her viral success following an appearance on the TikTok platform, Righteous Eats.
