Powerful storms ripped through the US Midwest on Friday, with the National Weather Service receiving reports of more than 80 tornadoes touching down in at least five states. One of the hardest hit cities was Omaha, NE, where families rode out, the Tornadoes huddled together. I’m not too afraid to admit I was crying like a baby. We’re thankful to be alive. We have a bomb shelter basement, and we were down there and you could hear it come. This man was lucky to not be at home when a tornado completely destroyed his house. You know, I was at the gas station getting hot dogs, and it saved my life. So hot dogs saved my life. One couple in the town of Venice, Nebraska, spent the frightful moments separated by a few 100 yards, not knowing if they would survive. I was scared for him because I knew he was in the house and I watched it hit the house. Her husband climbed down into a tiny crawl space just some moments before the twister hit. Scared. Really scared. And like I said, it was like vacuum at the noise and the wind and then things hit in the house and. Then the suction on my ears and then within probably 30 seconds it was gone and gone to was the top floor of their home. This is the second time in five years that Mother Nature has tormented them. In 2019, storms caused severe water damage. This I don’t think will recover from. I don’t think we can. At our age, it’s more than we can handle. We’re just going to have to move on. The National Weather Service reported Saturday that multiple people were injured in Friday’s storms, but there were no fatalities. They also issued dangerous storm threats that are expected to continue through Sunday, ranging from Texas to Wisconsin. For City News, I’m Karen Seolan.
