Poco X6 Pro quick review: Impressive camera, minimalistic design

The Poco X6 Pro was launched alongside the Poco X6 in India today. The Poco X6 Pro boasts an intriguing set of specifications, featuring a Dimensity 8300 Ultra paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Notably, Poco has introduced a new color with the Poco X6 Pro, adding an appealing option for users tired of the typical whites and blacks. I’ve been using the device for a couple of days, and here are my initial impressions of the Poco X6 Pro.

Looks good

The Poco X6 Pro impresses with its sleek, bezel-less design, making it a perfect choice for those who prefer a more understated look over flashy phones. The phone sports a plastic rear panel with a glass-like finish, providing a premium feel. It comes in three color options, and I got my hands on the grey variant, a welcomed departure from the usual smartphone color palette.

The phone’s design is boxy with a flat structure and borders, ensuring a comfortable and secure grip. I found the phone to be slip-resistant, minimizing the chances of accidental drops. However, it’s worth noting that the rear panel tends to attract fingerprints easily. To keep it smudge-free, I recommend using the included silicone case provided in the box. Overall, the Poco X6 Pro combines aesthetics with practicality, offering a stylish yet user-friendly design.

Powerful and fast

The Poco X6 Pro comes right out-of-the-box running on Android 14 and is based on HyperOS. It’s important to note that the Poco X6 Pro ships with HyperOS and is not delivered through an OTA update. In my initial usage, I didn’t have the opportunity to subject the phone to rigorous testing, but I’ve observed that the phone’s animations are impressively fast. Navigating from the main screen to other apps is a breeze.

However, one notable downside is the bloatware issue. The phone is loaded with pre-installed apps, and I’m not referring to the essential Google Apps. I’m talking about the unwanted apps that come preloaded on the device. There’s an App Vault, games, and other features that I personally find of little use. Additionally, the inclusion of the Opera browser app, which is not widely used, adds to the bloatware concern. Despite a fairly user-friendly interface, dealing with unnecessary pre-installed apps remains one of my primary concerns with the Poco X6 Pro.

Good camera and battery life

Having used the phone for nearly two days, I haven’t had the opportunity to explore different picture modes extensively. However, the 64-megapixel primary sensor has proven to be quite impressive, particularly in outdoor conditions. The camera captures detailed and vibrant shots, showcasing its capabilities.

One standout feature for me is the portrait mode. It effectively separates the subject from the background, avoiding the unnatural cutout look that often plagues many mid-range devices with portrait mode. This attention to detail adds a layer of sophistication to the overall camera experience.

While the initial impressions are positive, I am yet to put the camera through its paces in challenging scenarios like night shots and low-light conditions. These tests will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the Poco X6 Pro’s camera performance. Stay tuned for more detailed insights on its low-light capabilities.

Should you buy the Poco X6 Pro?

The Poco X6 Pro appears to be an impressive mid-range smartphone, offering a sleek and bezel-less design that caters to users who prefer a more understated look. The plastic rear panel with a glass-like finish adds a premium feel, and the availability of a new color option, like the grey variant, offers a refreshing change. The boxy and flat structure ensures a comfortable grip, minimizing the risk of accidental drops.

Powered by the Dimensity 8300 Ultra and featuring up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, the Poco X6 Pro promises fast and efficient performance. The animations are notably quick, providing a seamless user experience. However, the presence of bloatware, including unwanted pre-installed apps, is a notable drawback, impacting the otherwise user-friendly interface.
