PM Majaliwa wants capacity of women CEOs strengthened

Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), ministries and stakeholders responsible for welfare of women to identify areas requiring reorganisation in order to strengthen the capacity of women CEOs in the country. He also directed the ministry for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups to improve the database of leaders and senior women executives in the public and private sector.Mr Majaliwa said his directives were part of the implementation of the preparation of voluntary disclosure of information on the execution of the sustainable development goals (Voluntarily National Review). The premier issued the directives over the weekend during the 11th meeting of the Tanzania women CEOs roundtable and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) themed: Learning with Confidence, Purpose and Influence.Speaking during the event, Mr Majaliwa said the directives also aim at measuring targets and indicators in order to gather accurate data.“Women CEOs in the public and private owned institutions should look at how to build the capacity for women professionals in the management of large and strategic projects such as the implementation of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), and the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project.“Since you have shown your potential in the current positions, this is an opportunity for you to participate in such projects. The government will create an enabling environment that will enable you to unlock potential in execution of huge projects that require large implementation capital,” added the premier,” he said.Mr Majaliwa called on government leaders, senior officers and executives in the private sector to strengthen empowerment services for the country to achieve its goals.According to him, President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration has focused on promoting the economy of individual citizens, especially the women, in order to reduce poverty in the country. He urged women CEOs to build the culture of conducting meetings from time to time, awarding excellent women who perform well in different sectors in order to boost motivation and encourage upcoming business women leaders. On his part, the director of international trade and economic diplomacy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, ambassador John Ulanga, urged women CEOs to unlock the potentials available in the international markets for the benefit of individuals and the country in general.“Since we are living in a global village, where there are a lot of opportunities both inside and outside, therefore let us cooperate as we are currently planning to benefit from available opportunities in foreign countries. We are there to create that linkage, “he said.By Hellen Nachilongo@[email protected] es Salaam.
