PETALING JAYA : Newly appointed Malaysian envoys should be first placed at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) to familiarise themselves with the investment environment, says foreign minister Mohamad Hasan.
He said ambassadors and high commissioners should have expertise in exploring and attracting investments and trade, besides building and maintaining bilateral diplomacy.
“I want the foreign affairs ministry, ambassadors and high commissioners to attract as many investors as possible to Malaysia,” Bernama quoted him as telling reporters after a Khatam Al-Quran Ramadan event in Seremban today.
Mohamad said although Mida and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation are responsible for attracting investments, it is more effective for the envoys to speak directly to investors and convince them.
