Pittsburgh Steelers’ Rookie Hailed as ‘Instant Impact’ Player by Ex-NFL Executive

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ draft class has been praised as one of the strongest in the league, especially because of the organization’s efforts to fortify the offensive line in front of quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

Former NFL Executive Marc Ross believes put together a list of the 10 draft picks most likely to make an immediate impact around the league, and Pittsburgh’s second-round selection, former West Virginia center Zach Frazier makes the cut.

“The Steelers clearly entered the draft with one thing top of mind: bolstering the offensive line,” Ross writes for NFL Media. “After selecting offensive tackle Troy Fautanu in Round 1, Pittsburgh doubled down in Round 2 by taking Frazier, a brawler who embodies everything this franchise is about. His experience and toughness will allow him to step in immediately as the pivot of an overhauled unit with a new offensive coordinator (former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith).”

If the season began today, Frazier would open Week 1 as the Steelers’ starting center, playing a vital role.

Frazier fills a pressing need for the Steelers, and could play a vital role in forging the chemistry along a rebuilt offensive line.

“Sawed-off frame with short arms and terrific power once he gets locked in,” NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein writes of the Steelers’ rookie. “Frazier’s lack of ideal arm length will be a problem for some evaluators and could cause him problems on the next level. Frazier has bulldozer drive strength in his lower half but allows his hands to do too much grabbing and hugging at times.”

Pro Football Focus points out that Frazier didn’t allow a sack, while only surrendering three quarterback hits in 806 snaps last season. The Steelers would sign up for that.
