PGA Championship to return to Kiawah's Ocean Course

The Wanamaker will return to Kiawah.

The PGA of America announced on Wednesday that its flagship event, the PGA Championship, will make its third appearance at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, with the South Carolina resort receiving hosting honors in 2031. The course will also be the site for the 2029. Junior PGA

“Past PGA Championships at Kiawah Island have provided no shortage of memorable moments and historic performances, all taking place along a breathtaking coastal setting,” said PGA of America president John Lindert. “The Ocean Course’s challenging layout and rich history make it an ideal destination for our championships.”

Kiawah previously hosted the 2012 PGA Championship, which was captured by Rory McIlroy, and the 2021 event, where Phil Mickelson defeated Father Time for his sixth major. The Ocean Course also held the 1991 Ryder Cup, better known as the “War on the Shore,” where the Americans defeated Team Europe by a single point.

The Pete Dye design is known as one of the toughest courses in the world, and is one of the top public venues in the United States.

With Wednesday’s announcement, the PGA of America has locked up the next eight PGA Championship tournament sites, including Quail Hollow (2025), Aronimink (2026), PGA Frisco (2027), Olympic (2028), Baltusrol (2029) and Congressional (2030). This year’s PGA Championship begins May 16 at Valhalla. This will be Valhalla’s fourth time serving as PGA Championship host. Brooks Koepka is the defending champ.
