Peta Credlin commends Richard Marles for calling China’s flare stunt ‘for what it is’
Sky News host Peta Credlin has commended Defence Minister Richard Marles for calling China’s flare stunt “for what it is” despite Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being “at pains” to be polite to China.
A Chinese fighter jet dropped flares in front of an Australian Navy helicopter in international waters off the coast of South Korea on Saturday evening.
Defence Minister Richard Marles has labelled the incident ‘both unsafe and unprofessional’.
“The Albanese government is at pains to be polite about China, but that hasn’t improved the communist dictatorship’s behaviour,” Ms Credlin said.
“The latest act of bullying was on the weekend when a Chinese fighter jet dropped flares in front of an Australian naval helicopter that was enforcing sanctions near the coast of Korea, but for swift evasive action by our pilot, there could have been a major incident.

“The Defence Minister Richard Marles called it for what it is … unlike the Prime Minister who delayed announcing the Chinese navy’s sonar attack on our divers last year until after he’d had his meeting with President Xi.
“But this shouldn’t just mean a rebuke of the Chinese government at the level of defence minister to defence minister because it’s way more serious than that, and it’s a repeat offence.”
